Top 6 Accessories for Your Drone

With the right accessories, you can get much more out of your drone: longer flight times, better footage, and a lower risk of damage. They simply make flying more fun and easier. In this guide, we’ll highlight the 6 best accessories for your drone .

1. Extra batteries and a smart charging solution

Most drones have a flight time of between 20 and 45 minutes per battery, and that time literally flies by as soon as you start filming. With 2 or 3 extra batteries, you can triple your time in the air and won’t have to stop just when you’re capturing the best shots.

What should you look out for?

  • Always use genuine DJI batteries or certified parts; cheap counterfeits can endanger your drone and your safety.
  • Store batteries at room temperature and keep them at a charge level of about 40 to 60% for extended periods.
  • When traveling or working on location, be sure to bring at least 2 extra batteries.

2. ND and Polarizing Filters

Filters are the best-kept secret to beautiful drone footage. Without a filter, your drone automatically selects a fast shutter speed in bright sunlight, which can result in jerky, “digital” video footage. An ND (Neutral Density) filter acts like sunglasses for your Camera: it blocks light so you can use a slower shutter speed. The result? Smooth, cinematic footage with natural motion blur.

A circular polarizing filter (CPL) takes it a step further by reducing reflections on water, glass, and wet surfaces, while making the sky a deeper blue and enhancing color saturation. It’s ideal for shooting at the seaside, over lakes, or in snowy landscapes.

When should you use which filter?

  • ND filter: for sunny weather and for all video shots where you want to capture smooth motion.
  • CPL filter: for use in situations with a lot of glare (water, glass) or to give the sky and colors more vibrancy.

3. A good bag or suitcase

Your drone is a precision device with a delicate Gimbal and Camera. If you carry it loose in a backpack, damage is only a matter of time. A special drone bag or hard case keeps your drone, batteries, Controller, and Cables securely in place and organized.

For those who travel frequently, a backpack is often the best choice: it’s comfortable, shock-resistant, and usually qualifies as carry-on luggage on planes. If you mainly fly to specific destinations or are transporting more expensive equipment, a hard-shell case with foam padding offers maximum protection.

Benefits of a Good Bag or Suitcase

  • Protection against impacts, dust, and moisture during transport.
  • Everything at your fingertips: no more loose batteries or cables that you forget.
  • It often qualifies as carry-on luggage, so you can always keep your drone with you.

4. A fast and reliable memory card

Sandisk Extreme 512 GB microSD card with V30 rating and included SD adapter.

Modern drones record in 4K and even 8K, and those files are large. A slow or insufficiently large memory card can result in choppy footage, interrupted videos, or—in the worst case—lost footage. Investing in a good card is therefore not a luxury but a necessity.

Pay special attention to the write speed: for smooth 4K and 6K video, choose a card with at least a V30 rating (or higher). In terms of storage, 128 GB is a comfortable minimum; if you’re filming all day, 256 GB will give you even more room.

Our Tips for Choosing the Right Card

  • Choose a reliable top brand with a speed rating of at least V30.
  • It’s better to take two smaller cards than one large one: if one fails, you won’t lose everything.
  • Format your card regularly in the drone itself for optimal performance.
  • Store your spare cards in a PGYTECH storage pouch for micro SD cards so you can easily find them on the go and keep them protected.

5. Propeller guards and spare propellers

Propellers are the most fragile part of your drone and the part that gets damaged the fastest: all it takes is a branch, a wall, or a slightly rough landing. Fortunately, they’re also one of the cheapest parts to replace, provided you have spares on hand.

Propeller guards are especially recommended for beginners and for those who fly indoors or in tight spaces. The protective rim absorbs impacts before the propellers (or your surroundings) sustain damage. Add a set of spare propellers to that, and a minor crash won’t mean a lost day of flying anymore.

6. A landing platform

A foldable drone landing platform with blue and orange sides and a drone standing on it.

One of the most underrated accessories. A landing pad gives you a clean, level, and clearly visible spot to take off and land. Without a landing pad, your drone will suck up dust, sand, grass, and small stones as it takes off, and these particles will end up directly in the Motors and on the Lenses.

A landing pad is worth its weight in gold, especially on the beach, in a field, or on a gravel path. Most models are foldable, lightweight, and brightly colored so your drone can easily find its way back to the takeoff point. This protects your motors, keeps your Camera clean, and makes every takeoff and landing look professional.

At DroneDepot, you’ll find, among other things, our own 55-cm DroneDepot landing platform and our full range of Landing gear.

Even more handy accessories

Depending on how and where you fly, these extras are well worth it:

  • Drone lighting (strobes): makes your drone more visible and is even required by law in certain situations.
  • Care Refresh: an insurance plan that quickly and affordably replaces or repairs your drone after an accident. Please note: It’s best to activate Care Refresh within the first 48 hours after your drone’s initial activation; after that, you’ll need to go through a separate process with DJI to link it to your device.
  • Kits: ready-to-use accessory kits, often more affordable than buying everything separately.
  • Remote controllers: Upgrading to a controller with a built-in screen provides a clearer view and a more comfortable flying experience.
